Invitation
to the 12th Annual
Gathering of the Friends of Scouting in Europe
Lake Ohrid, Former Yugoslav
Republic of Macedonia, 14 –17 October 2010
The
12th annual gathering of the Friends of Scouting in Europe will this
year take place near Lake Ohrid, one of Europe’s
largest and oldest lakes and a UNESCO world heritage site.
The visit of the lake area with it’s many historic sites, and
of the capital city of Skopje, will be just two of the many
interesting excursions and exclusively organised visits during this
annual gathering. The now almost 300 "Friends of Scouting in Europe",
devoted to helping Scouting in Central and Eastern Europe to further
grow and develop, are happy to invite their members with families and
guests to this gathering.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit and learn about the
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), meet with other members
and get to know this country’s very active Scout association.
The official programme will start on Thursday, Oct. 14 in the late
afternoon and finish on Sunday, Oct. 17 after lunch.
Participants will be picked up from and brought back to Skopje
international airport. The participation cost will be around
€ 300, plus accomodation. The detailed invitation will be
available in early May 2010 and will automatically be sent out to all
“Friends of Scouting in Europe” . The registration
deadline will be August 15, 2010.

Recruitment campaigns and activities have always been
the top priority of our river scout unit. After successfully training
10 members of our unit how to work, communicate and lead children we
are ready to recruit new members. Our goal is to face one of
the greatest problems not just in our river scout unit but also in the
Scout Association of Macedonia which is the lack of cub scouts (age 7
to 11).

In
order to revive river scouting in Macedonia we plan to organize a 4
day scout camp that would be located by a river. In the period of the
4 days our idea is to train 30 members (ages- 15 to 23) from our
river scout unit in the techniques and skills of rafting so that they
can restart the activities on the rivers. After this kind of training
and activities we should rapidly see a rise in the enthusiasm,
involvement and moral among the members of our unit.

In previous period, number of river scout and sea scout
units were members of Association of Scouts of Montenegro (SICG). Most
of these units were existing in Kotor, Bar, Budva, Niksic, Tivat and
Podgorica. Each of these scout units were having 60 – 100
scouts. Their activities were implemented on sea, as well as
rivers and lakes. As activity of the organization was reduced, these
scout units stop their functioning, and currently are not active. Now,
with SICG becoming independent member of WOSM, interest for renewal of
activities of these groups is raising again.

Bringing smiles is our motto for this project. We want
to bring smiles to the faces of the children that need the most, more
particular to the children that are not as privileged as every other
child. Our idea is to reach out to these children, as potential new
scouts that will enable us to grow and them to feel happy and included.
We hope that this small step will show big message to the local
community and it will be followed by many other people which will help
these children became healthy, strong and responsible young men.

First priority of our scout unit is growth and the
initial thought that we have is recruitment of new leaders. Only new
leaders can make the organic growth that we are aiming for. Therefore
our scout unit is in need of new leaders which will help us reach out
to as many children as we can. We are aware about the interest the
children have, but from the other side we are not able to provide them
scouting, because we are in lack of leaders.
